The future of infrastructure: All in the cloud?

What is the future of the infrastructure that underlies and hosts all the computing and telecoms provision in the UK? How will the energy grid develop to provide all the power required by IT and Comms around the UK? Will we have a smart grid capable of the required flexibility and responsiveness?

Where will tomorrow's computing resource be located? Will larger organisations continue to run ever-increasing concentrations of computing and storage capability, or will outsourcing and off-shoring continue to grow? Does 'Cloud Computing' offer a model for the future? How will telecommunication networks and mobile services develop, and will they be able to cope with the demand? What are the legal implications of centralised and trans-national processing and storage/control of information? Will we all be happy to use computing resources and applications without knowing who or what controls them? What is Cloud Computing anyway?
